Remembrance Day ceremony at Dam Square

The National 4 and 5 May Committee organises the Remembrance Day ceremony held at Dam Square in Amsterdam. The ceremony is attended by King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima and representatives of the government, victims of war and next-of-kin.

Canal in Amsterdam

Amsterdam, capital of the Netherlands, has more than one hundred kilometers of canals (grachten), about 90 islands and 1,500 bridges. The three main canals, dug in the 17th century during the Dutch Golden Age, form concentric belts around the city, known as the Grachtengordel.

The three main canals (Herengracht, Prinsengracht and Keizersgracht), dug in the 17th century during the Dutch Golden Age and form part of the original history of the city.
